This study clarifies the relation between low-frequency shock wave oscillations and wall pressure spectra in shock wave and turbulent boundary layer interactions with heated and cooled walls.

Check out our new paper, "Near-wall numerical coherent structures and turbulence generation in wall-modeled large eddy simulation" published in Journal of Fluid Mechanics. This study reveals the presence of streak-like structures within the near-wall unresolved regions of the wall-modeled LES, which play a significant role in driving turbulence generation.

Check out our new paper, "Modified wavenumber and aliasing errors of split convective forms for compressible flows" published in Journal of Computational Physics. Contrary to conventional arguments, this paper shows that the split forms in finite difference methods increase aliasing errors, and the superior numerical stability of KEP or KEEP schemes is due to the enhanced preservation property of the secondary conservative variables.

Check out our new paper "High-order accurate kinetic-energy and entropy preserving (KEEP) schemes on curvilinear grids" published in Journal of Computational Physics. The proposed high-order accurate KEEP schemes achieve very stable and non-dissipative computations by preserving the total kinetic energy and total entropy, even on a largely distorted computational grid.

This paper proposes a localized thickened flame (LTF) model to accurately predict flame propagation and autoignition using detailed chemical kinetics on a coarse mesh.

Check out our new paper "Turbulence modeling for turbulent boundary layers at supercritical pressure: A model for turbulent mass flux" published in Flow, Turbulence and Combustion. Based on the analysis of the DNS database (Kawai J. Fluid Mech. 865, 2019), this paper proposed a RANS modeling for turbulent boundary layers at supercritical pressure where large density fluctuations are induced by the pseudo-boiling phenomena.

Our group has been extensively working on the high-fidelity DNS and LES studies of various turbulent flows, such as separated turbulent boundary layers, shock-boundary layer interaction, transonic airfoil buffet, airfoil stall phenomena, turbulent boundary layers at supercritical pressures, etc., using supercomputer K (10 Peta FLOPS computer). To make full use of our DNS and LES database, the turbulence database have been made open at our Flow Database. Currently, the wall-resolved LES database of A-airfoil near stall condition at Re_c = 2.1E6 by Asada & Kawai, Physics of Fluids (2018) have been open.

Check out our new paper published in Comput. Fluids on "A quadrature simplification method for fast implicit discontinuous Galerkin schemes." This paper proposes a methodology for fast implicit time integrations with high-order DG methods by assuming constant-flux Jacobians in each cell and simplifying the quadrature involved in implicit time integration schemes.
